Georgian Wine Tour Autumn 2022
Sharman Wines is is proud and excited to announce a new collaboration with north east based award winning tour operator Undiscovered Destinations. In Autumn 2022 we intend to offer an inaugural fully escorted small group tour to the fantastic country of Georgia, a land of incredible history, warm local hospitality and superb scenery including the towering peaks of the Caucasus range. In our view, best of all, Georgia is home to one of the oldest viticulture’s on the planet, dating back some 8000 years. During the tour we will explore the alluring region of Kakheti, being welcomed into small scale family owned wineries and also more established vineyards. The region is home to incredible historical sites such as the stunning 11th Century Alaverdi Cathedral surrounded by vines at the foot of the Caucasus Mountains. Georgia is blessed with a wonderful climate and a hugely diverse range of grapes, many of which maybe unfamiliar, such as Saperavi and Rkatsiteli, but nonetheless result in delicious wines produced mostly through the ancient traditional Qvevri method which involves fermentation buried in the ground! Staying in comfortable quality accommodation, never far from the vines, we expect the inaugural tour to take place in October 2022 when the climate is extremely pleasant and the grapes are being harvested.
Georgia is happily free of COVID restrictions for vaccinated travellers and no visa is required.
In order to truly appreciate and learn about the history and culture of Georgia, we will travel with an experienced knowledgeable local guide in addition to a representative from Undiscovered Destinations and Sharman Wines. Georgia is only 6 hour flight from the UK via Istanbul or Amsterdam. A special discount will be offered for travellers who mention Sharman Wines at the booking stage.
